BSNL Employees defer indefinite strike

A Land Mark achievement. 

The call for indefinite strike from 13-06-2012 has been deferred, following an agreement signed between the Forum of BSNL Unions & Associations and the Management. The long pending demand of the BSNL employees that 78.2% IDA fixation  should be given, has  been settled. This is undoubtedly a land mark  achievement, considering the present week financial position of the company. 

When BSNL Management issued order on 25-05-2012, granting 6th CPC recommended allowances to the unabsorbed ITS officers, the Forum of BSNL Unions & Associations also demanded that the genuine demands of the employees, including 78.2% IDA fixation should be settled. The BSNL Management tried to divert the issue by keeping the order granting allowances to the ITS officers under abeyance. However, the Forum remained firm that the demands of employees should be settled.

            10,815 candidates have qualified the written test of the Combined Defence Services Examination (I)-2012 held by the Union Public Service Commission in February, 2012. The interview of the candidates will be conducted by the Service Selection Board of the Ministry of Defence for admission to (i) Indian Military Academy, Dehradun 134th Course commencing in January, 2013 (ii) Indian Naval Academy, Ezhimala, Course commencing in January, 2013 (iii) Air Force Academy, Hyderabad (Pre-Flying) Training Course for 193rd F(P) Course commencing in January, 2013 (iv) Officers’ Training Academy, Chennai  97th SSC Course (for Men) commencing in April, 2013 and (v) Officers’ Training Academy, Chennai, 11th  SSC Women (Non-Technical) Course commencing in April, 2013. The ratio of candidates shortlisted for the examination per vacancy is 1:20.52.

Indian Railways Unique Enquiry Number 139

Indian Railways unique Customer Care and Enquiry Number 139 provides a host of information to its customers like PNR status, train arrival/departure timing, accommodation availability, train fare, online ticket booking etc. Customers need to simply dial 139 and after selection of language following prompts are available in the system: 

“Press 1 to know about PNR status of waiting list reserved ticket” 

“Press 2 for Arrival/Departure of train” 

“Press 3 for accommodation availability” 

“Press 4 to know about Fare enquiry” 

“Press 5 to book your ticket through cash card and getting it delivered through courier or email” 

“Press 6 to know the status of Mumbai Central Railway Suburban trains” 

The system is so devised that a Customer need not wait will the entire announcement fed in the IVRS is completed. Customer can skip the same by pressing the desired code (viz., can press 1 for PNR status, 2 for Arrival/Departure etc.) after selection of the preferred language. In case of three unsuccessful attempts, the call is automatically transferred to Customer Care Executive for his further assistance. In addition, one can send different SMS formats to 139 to get information on PNR status, train arrival/departure timing, accommodation availability, train fare enquiry and location of running train.
