Dearness Allowance: Calculation Table upto August 2009


All India Consumer Price Index Number for Industrial Workers (CPI-IW) on base 2001=100 for the month of August, 2009 increased by 2 points and stood at 162 (one hundred and sixty two).

During August, 2009, the index recorded a maximum increase of 8 points in Mercara centre, 7 points in Guwahati centre, 5 points each in Sholapur, Nasik, Ahmedabad, Agra and Yamunanagar centres, 4 points in 10 centres, 3 points in 9 centres, 2 points in 15 centres and 1 point in 20 centres. The index decreased by 3 points in Quilon centre and by 1 point in 6 centres, while in the remaining 10 centres the index remained stationary.

The maximum increase of 8 points in Mercara centre is mainly on account of increase in the prices of Rice, Arhar Dal, Vegetable & Fruit items, Sugar, Tea (Readymade), Shirting Cloth (Synthetic), Cinema, etc. The increase of 7 points in Guwahati centre is due to Rice, Wheat Atta, Fish Fresh, Vegetable & Fruit items, Sugar, Shirting Cloth (Synthetic), Bus Fare, etc. The increase of 5 points each in Sholapur, Nasik, Ahmedabad, Agra and Yamunanagar centres is due to Rice, Wheat, Arhar Dal, Milk, Onion, Vegetable & Fruit items, Sugar, Firewood, School Books & Fees, etc. However, the decrease of 3 points in Quilon centre is mainly due to Fish (Fresh).

The indices in respect of the six major centres are as follows :

1. Ahmedabad: 158
2. Bangalore: 170
3. Chennai: 151
4. Delhi: 151
5. Kolkata: 160
6. Mumbai: 161

The point to point rate of inflation for the month of August, 2009 is 11.72% as compared to 11.89% in July, 2009.

Have patience. Increase in index for DA is not a good sign for our country. It affects our low paid poor people badly. Always hope that it should go down.
