PIL on retirement age of civil servants

Lucknow, Sep 24 (PTI) A PIL was filed in the Lucknow bench of the Allahabad High Court today, seeking direction to extend the retirement age of officers of India Civil Services from 60 years to at least 65 years.

Neelendra Pandey, a local social worker, stated in his PIL that he is aggrieved with discrepancies in the retirement policy of different government services.

He said IAS, IPS and IFS officers retire at 60 years, while people of about 80 years and sometime even more continue as President, Prime Minister, Governor and Chief Minister, Minister and MLAs.

Professors and doctors of Central universities and institutions like AIIMS retire at 65 and primary school teachers retire at 62, Pandey said while terming the retirement policies as defective and challenging the same.

He requested the court to direct Central government to consider making a universal retirement policy for all public servants.

i do agree with the pil.the retirement age should be at least 65 years in case of all central govt servents.these people honestly and quitely working towards the development of the nation,pay their taxes on time and depend mostly on their salary.many govt. servents even run pillar to post to get a post retirement job for running their family as their children are not settled or married.we must submit to the govt.for the same.

The retirement age should according to me should be 58 years.Then only
more opportunities for educated youngsters will exist.At a time when jobs are shrinking and with alarming unemployment rate it is not wise to increase retirement age.

INCREASE THE AGE OF SUPERANNUATION FROM 60 TO 62 YEARS FOR EMPLOYEES OF ADMINISTRATIVE POSITIONS IN CENTRAL GOVT OF INDIA

Sir,
Earlier it was usual practice that people used to serve tghe Govt of India for 40 to 42 years and the minimum qualification for joining Govt service was Matriculation only. During this long tenure people used to discharge their family and social responsibilities suitably.

I spent more time in my career and did my graduation before joing AFHQ as LDC and this holds good for thousands of other Govt servants who entered the Govt after serving higher studies. With the gradual crunch of employment opportunities even professional people like BE, MBA, MCA are joining the clerical service in the Govt. And they are not able to discharge their family and social responsibility suitably. The same is the case with me too.

The age of superannuation in respect of specialists included in the Teaching, non teaching and public health Sub cadres of Central Health Service shall be 62 years now. Eminent Scientists of international stature may be granted extension of service upto the age of 64 years. Specialists included in the Teaching sub cadres of the Central Health Service who are engaged only in tgeaching activities and not occupying administrative positions, the age of superannuation is 65 years. The Central Govt has given exension of service to the Secretary, Deptt of Space and the Secretary, Department of Atomic Energy, upto maximum age of 66 years.

The normal age has increased due to advanced medication and ultra modern medical facilities available in the market. The general man is medically fit and healthy these days as he is very conscious about his health.

I joined AFHQ on 21-08-1976 after doing my graduation in Commerce stream from a very reputed college of Delhi University, as a regular student. I am physically and mentally fit at the age of 59 years today. I could join Govt of India after the age of 24 years as I was busy in my academic career and preparation of competitive examinations. Therefore, I have not been able to serve the Govt of India for even 34 years. I have not been able to discharge my family and social responsiblities as yet suitably.

In view of the above I urge like minded people to join me in this crusade to pressurise the Govt to increase the age of supernannuation from 60 to 62 years.

We request through these columns aggrieved retirees to file a PIL with regard to discriminatory implementation of increased Gratuity
ceiling of Rs.10 lakhs from 24.05.2010 instead of from 01.01.2006.

I agree with the PIL. If not 65, the retirement age should be raised to 62 years. In Indian Railways, retired employee are taken on daily rate basis up to the age of 62 years and as such there should not be any hesitation to raise the retirement age up to 62 years

I agree with the PIL. Age for superannuation should be 65 years and govt should adopt a universal policy for suprannuation.
It is surprising that the Government of India does not want to make the retirement age common for all the central govt. and state govt. employees in our country. It is likely that the govt. will remove the anomaly in the next Loksabha election to be held in 2014. They are more interested to get in the power, however, least interested to protect the interests of a common man in this country.

People in the above mentioned comments are unanimous in saying that the retirement age of govt servants should be increased to 62/65 years. You people are not happy working till 60/58 years of age and want to work more to earn more and settle well in life. Have you people ever thought about the poor armed forces personnel who are made to retire at a young age of 40 to 45 years of age? How they survive? how human resource is being wasted by making them retire too early?

Retirement policy is highly irregular in India.There should be uniformity in the age of retirement throughout the country.Where most of the state govt employees retire at the age of 60, it is still 58 in Meghalaya. Though the 6th Pay Commission has recommended the age of superannuation for College and University teachers to 65,which has already been implemented in most part of India, Meghalaya govt does not accept it.The most surprising thing is that the Semi/quasi govt employees here in Meghalaya, retire at the age of 60. How could a state which is very much a part of India, could adopt such a discretionary policy?I believe there should be one and only one criterion in the matter of retirement age all over India.
