Retirement age of teaches in Punjab govt medical colleges raised

Punjab govt has enhanced the retirement age of teachers working in government medical, dental and ayurvedic colleges from 60 to 62 years in a bid to retain qualified medical teaching faculty.

A decision to this effect was taken at a meeting of the cabinet chaired by Punjab Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal on Saturday evening, said an official spokesman in a release on Saturday.

He said the cabinet also gave its nod to increase the age of re-employment from 65 years to 70 years for the faculty of these colleges.

Teachers who opt for re-employment would be entitled to emoluments of last pay drawn plus pension. This facility would be applicable unless no eligible faculty member was available.

As a follow-up to the successful resolution of the issue regarding the 1320 MW Peona Thermal Plant at Mansa, the cabinet approved solatium at the rate of Rs.3 lakh per family of the labourers who had been earning livelihood from the land acquired for the plant.

The cabinet also approved the decision to give government job to the next of the kin of the deceased who was killed during the agitation and waive his cooperative loans.

One farmer was killed allegedly in police cane charge in Gobindpura during farmers agitation against land acquisition for setting up a plant at Mansa in August this year.

The cabinet also decided to relax the land acquisition policy in order bring landless labourers within the ambit of adequate compensation provisions.

The cabinet also approved the recruitment for 31 posts of faculty in the Government Ayurvedic College Patiala and 21 Junior Lecturers and Lecturers as per the norms of Central Council of Indian Medicine (CCIM).

The cabinet also gave approval to grant extension to the policy of reemployment of PCS (Executive Branch) appointed on contract basis till 31st December, 2012 or the appointment of new PCS (Executive Branch) officers, whichever is earlier.

It also gave approval to fill 292 vacancies after the re-structuring of Punjab Home Guards and Civil Defence Department, of which 245 would be filled in the Border wing of home guards and 47 technical posts in urban/rural and civil defence wing, he said.

The cabinet also approved upgradation of the Banga sub-tehsil as sub-division in Shaheed Bhagat Singh Nagar district besides village Cheema in Sangrur and Hajipur in Hoshiarpur district as sub-tehsils and also gave nod for the creation of requisite staff in the newly created sub-division and sub-tehsils.

The cabinet also gave approval to appoint Ruby Tomar, as sub inspector in the pay scale Rs.10300-34800+ 3600 GP with basic pay of Rs.14430 instead of Assistant Sub Inspector who won the Gold medal in Rifle Shooting during World University Games, 2011 in China.
